Morning Discovery Club We open our doors at 6:30 am. When
children arrive at Discovery Club they can choose from a variety of
activities. We offer puzzles, games, books, toys, art projects, and a
chance to be on one of the computers. At 8:00, children have the option to go to the gym or outside. At 8:45, children will have an option to go to breakfast, or stay in the room for quiet time to read or do homework. At 9:00, kids will clean up and get ready to go to school.
Afternoon Discovery Club Our
afternoon begins as soon as school gets out. Our first through sixth graders go straight to the Discovery Club rooms to check in. Then,
the first through third graders head to the cafeteria for snack. The fourth through sixth grade go to the Discovery Club room for homework time. The kindergarteners are picked
up by our kindergarten groupleader and are brought to the cafeteria.
After snack, we go outside for 20 to 45 minutes depending on the
weather.
Once our outside time is over, the kids divide into
their age appropriate groups. A group consists of up to 15 kids to 1
adult. Each group uses the computer lab, gym, and the Discovery Club rooms. Once the kids are in their groups, they have the opportunity to participate in the group activity.
Once a week the
kids will be involved in our violence prevention program called Second
Step. Their group leader will pull out a picture card of a child with
a problem. The kids will talk about the problem and then think of ways
in which the problem can be solved.
Kids participate in a variety of group activities (4:30 - 5:30 p.m.).
Our activities include:
- Gym games
- Art projects
- Walking field trips
- Science experiments
- Cooking projects
- Sewing, weaving, and knitting
- Construction with legos, kynex, and other items
- Board games and puzzles
- Creative writing
- Seasonal Crafts

- And much, much more!!
So, you can see, Discovery Club at L'Etoile du Nord is a lot of fun!
