Discovery Club at Nokomis Montessori School The mission of Discovery Club is to provide out-of-school-time child care in a safe, fun, caring environment that supports children's learning and development.
Children participate in a wide variety of academic enrichment, recreational and cultural activities that informally support learning and social development. Additionally, Discovery Club staff connect with school-day teachers to better support children's learning.
Discovery Club at Nokomis offers different components to meet the needs of the families we serve. A child may be enrolled in any combination of components listed below:
- Before School: from 6:30 to the start of the school day. This is an informal time of self directed and structured activities. Gym games are also offered each morning.
- Extended Day Pre-kindergarten: Extended pre-K 4 year old program is approximately 4 hours of the regular school day (after the school's morning 4 year old program). Children arrive
at Discovery Club after eating lunch with their Montessori class. They participate in academic enrichment activities designed to complement the 4 year old program. Recess and a short rest time is provided during the afternoon session. - After School: from the end of the school day until 6 p.m. This is a time for children to unwind, have a nutritious snack and socialize. Children participate in enrichment activities and projects, homework/reading time, and exercise.
School Release: from 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. on days school is closed for conferences, teachers meetings, professional days, winter break and spring break. These days are often used for field trips. Enrollment is optional; parents/guardians contract for these days separately.
